Gourmet Butcher Block is a Cajun specialty meat market that was established in 1994. The owners are Leah Hebert Mistich and Glenn Mistich. Leah was raised in the food industry. In 1974 her parents opened Soop's Restaurant in Maurice, Louisiana. They began serving de-boned stuffed chickens for plate lunches. the customers started asking to buy the de-boned stuffed chickens so they could cook them at home fore themselves.

Glenn was a fishermen growing up. after marrying, Glenn and Leah eventually moved to Maurice, Louisiana where Glenn began working with his brothers-in-law, Junior and Sammy Hebert, who in 1984 opened Hebert's Specialty Meats, Glenn and Leah moved to Belle Chasse, Louisiana and opened Gourmet Butcher Block in nearby Terrytown. Three months after opening the business local TV personality, Frank Davis, featured Gourmet Butcher Block on a segment of Naturally N'Awlins.

In 1977, local radio personality, Bob Delgerno, invited Glenn to the Saints versus Rams game in the Superdome. It was then that Glenn introduced sport's analyst, John Madden, to the Turducken. With that said, the Turducken was chosen to be the official food for the "All-Madded Team." Gourmet Butcher Block was also mentioned several times during that season's Super Bowl.

Once the business began getting recognition, they outgrew their Terrytown location and moved to a bigger location in Gretna, Louisiana. They have now moved since into their current location, 2144 Belle Chasse Highway, Gretna, Louisiana. The new building is three times larger than their original location.

Since then, Gourmet Butcher Block has been on The Food Network, WWL TV, WDSU TV, Fox, and Best Damn Sports Show Period. It has also been written up in numerous newspaper articles in the Food, Money, and Living sections of the Times-Picayune, Gourmet Butcher Block has appeared in the New York Times, USA Today, Columbus Dispatch, Gambit Weekly, Down the Road Magazine, and many other publications.
