Baptiste Collette
Maintenance Re-Dredging
The Army Corps of
Engineers began the
maintenance dredging
of Baptiste Collette
Bayou to a
depth of 16 feet mid
October 2009 with an
estimated completion
date of January 31, 2010. About
1 million cubic yards of
material will be dredged
and used to create
wetlands in the area.
Baptiste Collette
Deepening
The plans to dredge
Baptiste Collette Bayou
to maintain a depth of
27 feet are progressing
well. Plaquemines Parish
funded $250,000 for a
recon study of the bayou
that was presented to
Parish President
Nungesser and the Parish
Council at the end of
October 2007. A
conservative
cost-benefit ratio of
1.4 was determined, a
number that well exceeds
what the Corps of
Engineers requires for
consideration. The next
step, the feasibility
study, that will cost
approximately $3 million
commenced March 1, 2008.
Once this study is
complete April 2010,
the results will be
presented to the Corps
of Engineers for
approval and funding of
the project.
